Root your herbal know-how with a field day in the Sierra Nevada foothills! Learn to identify commonly used medicinals – cultivated, native, and “weedy” varieties – that grow well in our climate and can be used for health and wellness.

The class includes basics in plant identification, recognizing plant families, ethics in wild harvesting, and how to harvest, dry and process fresh plants. We’ll prepare herbal medicines in the field, review procedures for basic tincture medicinal oils, build plant observation and connection skills, and discuss medicinal applications of common and easy to grow plants in the Sierra Nevada foothills. An emphasis will be made on useful medicinals for the summer season: herbal zinc oxide sun screen, poison oak prevention and treatment, herbal mosquito repellent and more.  Participants will take home medicinal preps made in the field for their home apothecary.

This field class is intended for those who already have some basic herbal background and would like to build on their knowledge and learn more about how to identify and work with fresh plants. Wondering if its for you? Contact us for more details.

Space limited to 15 participants. Class fee: $75 (includes materials & supplies)
